Meadow Brook Theatre was honored to host 4 guests from Gander, Newfoundland and the surrounding area that were instrumental in the efforts in Gander following 9/11. These guests are portrayed by the actors in Come From Away.

After their Appearance at Newfound Friends they wanted to continue to support the Meadow Brook Theatre by signing some memorabilia for the theatre to auction off. We are honored to have had them visit and support Meadow Brook Theatre.
On the morning of September 11, 2001, as the events in New York were happening, the residents of a little town on a small island were waking up to what they believed would be just another normal September day in Gander, Newfoundland. They had no idea that their lives would be irrevocably changed in ways they could not imagine.
When the airspace above the United States was closed, and all of the planes currently in the air needed to be diverted, this small town on a rocky island, “where the continents once crashed together,” received 38 of those planes with 7000 passengers and 19 animals onboard.
The residents of Gander and the neighboring communities rose to the challenge and came together to house and care for these “Newfound Friends” for 5 days while the United States dealt with the aftermath of the events in New York. The people and the events are the inspiration for the play Come From Away.
As the 25th anniversary of 9/11 approaches We are privileged to welcome some of those residents to our home at Meadow Brook Theatre for a One Night Only special event.
