On the morning of September 11, 2001 as the events on New York were happening the residents of little town on a small Island were waking up to what they believed would be just another normal September day in Gander Newfoundland. They had no idea that that their lives would be irrevocably changed in ways they could not imagine.
When the airspace above the United States was closed, and all of the planes currently in the air needed to be diverted, this small town on a rocky island “where the continents once crashed together” received 38 of those planes with 7000 passengers and 19 animals onboard.
The residents of Gander rose to the challenge and came together as a community to house and care for these “Newfound Friends” for 5 days while the United States delt with the aftermath of the events in New York.
As the 25th anniversary of 9/11 approaches We are privileged to welcome some of those residents to our home at Meadow Brook Theatre for a One Night Only special event.
Join us for a moderated panel discussion led by Travis Walter and featuring:
Claude Elliott – Mayor of Gander
Derm Flynn – Mayor of Appleton
Oz Fudge – Gander Constable
Brian Mosher – News Reporter from Gander
The event concludes with an afterglow reception with the guests.
